Master of Social Work, Registered Social Worker
ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS, virtually only
Holly has been working in the counselling field for over 10 years. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a specialization in counselling from the University of British Columbia. She also holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Waterloo. Her experience involves providing therapy for the mental health and addictions department in healthcare, in addition to providing counselling for non profit organizations. She is trained in various different types of therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy and solution focused brief therapy.
Holly has a strong passion for working with people. Her strengths include connecting with people and creating a non judgmental space where you can feel comfortable talking about personal challenges. Her belief is that mental health is similar to physical health in that it ebbs and flows throughout our life.
Holly has experience working with youth, adults and couples. She has worked predominantly with people who have experienced challenges with relationships, work, stress, mental health and traumatic experiences.
When Holly is not working, she is typically travelling, hiking or spending time outdoors. More recently she’s been learning how to repair and revive house plants as her new kitten shares an equal love for plants.
CBT focuses on identifying, challenging and replacing our destructive thought patterns that have a negative influence on both our emotions and behaviors.
Dialectical behavior therapy teach us ways to mindfully manage distressing emotions and prevent us from engaging in reckless and self-destructive behaviors, while remaining in the present.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT therapy) is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment.
